They’re Worth It Too

Tuesday 6th June saw the debut of an insightful and challenging dance and drama piece called ‘They’re Worth It Too’. Written and directed by one of our very own Emerging Influencers, Anna Strain wanted to communicate some of the realities of injustice in our world today.

Anna has been passionate about bringing about a more just world since she first heard about suffering. ‘I remember thinking that I couldn’t live in a world where people go without and are oppressed. More than that, I don’t want to live in a world where this happens.’

Having written the script and brought together a cast and crew of 20 people, rehearsals began to tell the story of a girl who has been trafficked.

This powerful piece moved the heart of the 200-strong audience as the performers wow-ed us with their talent and the challenging nature of the subject line. Anna’s parting challenge to the audience was in the form of a quote from William Wilberforce: ‘Now that you have seen these things, you can continue to turn away but you can no longer say I did not know.’

What an inspirational and innovative way to bring issues of justice into our space and leave us with the challenge: so what? Now that we have heard about issues of injustice, poverty, famine, hunger, unclean water and traffiking, what will we do now?

Well done Anna and the cast and crew of ‘They’re Worth It Too’, you have been part of something much bigger than you can imagine and we’re very excited to have you as part of the Emerging Influencers programme.
